Now is the ideal time to add a little whimsy to your wardrobe, and I’m confident that these 10 easy styling and fashion tips will help you achieve just that.
When it comes to putting ensembles together and putting your best foot forward, there are a few basic fashion and styling tips and tricks that may make all the difference.
In this article, I’d want to share some of my all-time favorite dressing ideas, so that getting dressed is not only easier but also more enjoyable.
Strips
The first piece of advice I have for you is to simply work those stripes.
Stripes have always been popular, but they’ve gotten a lot of attention this year. You should expect to see stripes of various sizes, directions, and colors.
The beautiful thing about stripes is how well they lend themselves to illusion dressing.
There was the famous viral Tick Tock dress that everyone was talking about because it was a magical slimming dress.
It has nothing to do with magic.
It’s only that the stripes and pattern on the dress are intended to give the appearance of a smaller waist.
The stripes essentially fooled our eyes into thinking the person had a smaller waist.
This is what makes stripes so appealing. When they’re placed correctly, they can help slim you down or take the focus away from certain portions of your body.
The beautiful thing about stripes is that you’ll have a lot of options. Just think about which stripes you want to wear.
Horizontal wide stripes, of course, will make you appear wider. Pay close attention to the stripe placement, as well as the direction and size of the stripes, and make use of them.
Try Trends
It’s all too easy to get stuck in a style rut, when we repeat wearing the same items over and over. We’re perplexed as to why we have nothing to wear while having ten pairs of black slacks and ten striped tops.
We do it because it’s convenient and comfortable, and we’ve found something that suits us and makes us happy. Then we simply buy more of the same stuff.
But, in order to get out of your styling rut, I urge you to take on a trend challenge.
Get some ideas for some of the season’s biggest trends and set a goal for yourself to try at least one of them.
That will take you a step outside of your comfort zone.
Taking that first step is often the most difficult part.
I’m not advising you to follow a trend that is so dissimilar to anything you would ordinarily wear or feel at ease in.
But challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone a little and not buy multiples of the same thing just because it’s convenient. You’ll wind up with a closet full of comparable items that don’t feel new, fresh, or trendy.
If you give a trend update a try, you could be amazed at how refreshing and revitalizing it is.
Dipped Hemlines
My next piece of advice is that dipped hemlines are your best friend.
When you put on a t-shirt and get dressed in the morning, you often look in the mirror and notice that it isn’t tucked in or has a slight half-tuck, and it makes you look horrible.
This is because a t-shirt normally falls at the largest area of your body, which is where the attention is drawn. You’re essentially emphasizing your broadest section.
The most flattering are t-shirts and tops with a dipped hemline, which dips down somewhat in the front and slightly in the rear.
Basically what that does is it elongates your legs, making them appear longer, and it just offers you that little bit of additional coverage in the front and back, making you feel more comfortable and giving the appearance of length.
Hemlines that are dipped are your best friend. One word of caution: make sure the dip is in the middle; you don’t want the scoop in the center and the dips on the sides.
I’ve seen this design before, and while it may appear to be comfy because it conceals your hips, it’s not. The difficulty with this approach is that it tends to increase volume to a region where you might wish to reduce it.
Check that the dipped hem is in the middle of your torso.
Update Jeans
The next piece of advice I have is to simply upgrade your jeans.
I know how difficult it is to locate the ideal pair of jeans and what happens when you do. You have a tendency to cling on to things, and we often do so for far too long.
Updating our jeans can provide us with a plethora of clothing possibilities as well as a more contemporary edge.
Updating your jeans may provide you with a plethora of new clothing alternatives as well as make all of your clothes look a little more trendy and fashionable.
I understand how difficult it is to locate the right pair, but we tend to hold on to them for far too long. So be sure to refresh your jeans, and if finding a nice pair takes a little time, so be it. It’s well worth the time and effort.
New Color
The next tip to consider is color.
I’d like to encourage everyone to add a splash of color to their attire.
Some ladies believe that women over the age of 40 should avoid wearing bright colors.
That’s just ridiculous!
Color, in my opinion, is the simplest method to brighten up an outfit. It also ties along with this brand-new concept of dopamine dressing.
If you’ve never heard of it, it’s simply just dressing in a way that makes you happy.
The wonderful thing about wearing color (I’ve lately added some new colors to my wardrobe) is that it truly brings delight to everyone around you.
Being bright and cheerful in general tends to bring out the best in others. It simply feeds off of one another. You acquire a positive energy from others, which helps you reciprocate.
Dopamine dressing is, in some ways, based on this concept.
I don’t believe color has an age limit. It’s the simplest way to feel fantastic about yourself, not just in terms of how you look, but in general.
Who doesn’t want a bit more joy in their life? As a result, add some fresh color.
No Specialty Shoes
There’s comfort and then there’s comfort. When it comes to shoes, you don’t have to choose specific footwear to be comfortable.
There are many of options for lovely, comfortable shoes that aren’t frumpy or out of style.
Gone are the days when they were your sole option for stepping out in style.
Consider a pair of really cool trainers or a pair of chunky boots.
I understand that comfort is important, but comfort does not have to mean sacrificing elegance. There are numerous options available.
I’ve recently heard a bunch of comments from women who have chosen high-top Converse trainers. They’ve stated that they’ve been a game changer in their lives.
So consider how you might make your clothing more comfortable. But also give them a bit of a modern twist. You don’t need to go to a speciality store to feel at ease.
Dresses
I’ve noticed that many ladies dislike wearing dresses. Dresses, on the other hand, are undervalued in my opinion.
You don’t have to worry about putting together an outfit because they’re all done for you.
There are so many lovely dresses on offer right now, which makes picking really simple.
If you don’t think you’re a big admirer of dresses, think again. Everyone can choose a style that suits them.
At the moment, the most popular dress style is a flowy maxi dress. If that’s not your style, go for something a little more fitting and a little shorter.
As I already stated, there is a dress for everyone. These one-and-done pieces are quite precious, in my opinion.
Especially for looking and feeling wonderful when getting ready in a hurry.
Shorts
When it comes to the hotter months, I feel you should really just wear shorts.
Too many women are missing out on a wonderful summer because they wish to cover their legs and refuse to wear functional, cool, and attractive shorts.
They like to wear long baggy shapeless shorts when they do wear shorts.
So, my recommendation is to simply put on the shorts. Don’t stress about covering up. It’s perfectly OK if they hit you above the knee. Simply be proud and have fun with your shorts.
Fabric
My next piece of advice is to pay close attention to the fabric. It makes a significant difference.
A pair of pants can be cut in the same way, but the fabric used to construct them will make a significant difference in how they sit, drape, and fit a body.
When it comes to quality, that’s usually what you pay a little bit extra for. You’re paying a higher price for a higher-quality fabric.
The fabric not only lasts longer, but it also feels nicer against your skin.
Take a thorough look at the materials and textures in the things you’re considering purchasing.
I understand that with most of us doing a lot more purchasing online, this can be difficult, but fabric does matter.
Trust Your Instincts
My last bit of advise, and perhaps the most essential, is to trust your gut.
I understand how perplexing it may be when you’re overwhelmed with fashion guidelines telling you to do this or don’t do that, or wear this or don’t wear that.
What occurs in that instance is that it prevents you from simply trusting your instinct, which is usually correct nine times out of ten.
Remember to follow your gut impulses. Simply roll with it if something feels and/or looks wonderful and makes you feel great.
