How to Wear a Sports Jacket With Jeans

how to wear a sports jacket with jeans

One of my favorite outfit combos is a sports jacket with jeans.

There are three causes for this.

First and foremost, it is adaptable. You can dress it up or down depending on your mood. You can take off the jacket depending on the sports jacket and the pants, and it will still look fine.

Two, it’s a step above the norm. It’s not like wearing a suit, it’s not like wearing a tuxedo.

This is something you know will be looked at, and it’s just a little bit better. You have the appearance of being the boss.

Finally, number three, sports jackets broaden the shoulders, narrow the waistline, and make you appear more powerful and macho.

In this article, I’ll show you how to look great in a sports jacket with jeans.

Wear the Right Sports Jacket

The most important thing to remember while wearing a sports jacket with jeans is to choose the proper sports jacket.

You should avoid wearing a jacket that is part of a suit.

If you have one suit and it’s navy blue and you think that I can wear this jacket with my jeans and look wonderful, don’t do that because you want to have your suit your go-to suit ready when you need it.

If you wear them as separates, they may begin to discolor, stain, and ultimately destroy your suit. Just don’t do it; go out and purchase a new jacket.

I always discuss fit, function, and fabric when it comes to apparel. That is your personal style pyramid.

First and foremost, the fit. Don’t wear it if it doesn’t fit you.

Pay special attention to the shoulders first. It must be a perfect fit in the shoulder areas.

Then consider the sleeve length; this can be altered, and the sleeves can even be slimmed down.

Look at the length of the jacket; if you’re a tall man, it may be a little longer, and if you’re shorter than normal, it may be a little shorter. In general, it should cover your buttocks just enough to be comfortable.

After that, you should consider the general fit of the chest and torso. Especially if you’ve nailed it in the shoulders, this can typically be altered.

Now it’s time to focus on something else.

You want to pay attention to the proportions and the pockets.

If you have a ticket pocket, it will be a little more informal.

You want to look at the lapels and see whether there are any notch lapels. You can also look for sport lapels. Because they’re designed to be closed up, they’ll have a little bit of a tab.

The objective is to ensure that the jacket’s appearance is more sporty and informal.

Let’s take a closer look at the fabric.

I strongly advise men to start with blues. There are so many different shades of blue.

It might be tan, dark brown, or light brown in color.

When it comes to patterns, stripes are usually the last thing on your mind. Stripes are common in suits, and they usually denote seriousness.

However, you can sometimes see a check, or a slightly thicker or heavier fabric, which is also cool.

But, once again, pay attention to the fit, function, and fabric.

Wear the Right Pair of Jeans

That sounds simple, right?

I still see a lot of guys doing it wrong, and it’s usually because they’re wearing way too light-colored jeans, distressed jeans, or jeans with holes in them.

If you’re going to wear them with a sports jacket, keep in mind that they should be a little dressier.

Dark, well-fitted jeans are the way to go. You don’t want to go too skinny or too loose; instead, you want to stick to a straight cut. You could wish to opt with a slimmer cut.

When it comes to the fabric, you should choose a denim that is thicker in weight. Indigo is a color that I normally prefer.

That, I believe, will go with a wide selection of sports jackets, especially the blue ones.

You can simply break it up by introducing a tan, a gold, or perhaps an olive green. That will still look fantastic with the indigo blue.

Grays, dark grays, blacks, and even maroons are all options. That’s something I’ve seen work pretty nicely. You can use khaki jeans with this outfit.

After you’ve got one or two pairs of really good dark blue jeans, these will all be your third or fourth choices.

Lighter blues don’t work as well.

One thing to keep in mind while choosing your jeans is to avoid anything with a lot of flashing, sequence, or anything like that. It’s just not right.

We’re not dressed up, but we’re not taking this lightly.

This is going to be a little bit more business casual and that’s what we’re striving for with this combination.

Wear the Right Type of Shoes

Shoes that are extremely formal, such as patent leather and most black formal shoes, should be avoided.

I’m referring to oxfords from Balmoral. They’re a tad too formal for this occasion.

I prefer to wear loafers. I prefer to wear a monk-strap.

Bring in a dress boot if possible. This is a terrific opportunity to combine it with the casualness of the jeans. This is the time for the dress boot, which comes in a wide range of brands.

You are welcome to bring in a Chelsea if you so like.

Look at the dark browns, light browns, and oxbloods. Those will be your go-to footwear.

Some of you choose to wear black. Black has the drawback of being nearly too formal. It’s a bit of a contrast that’s a touch too stark.

Wear The Right Shirts

In most instances, T-shirts are a little too casual for most individuals.

If you’re the CEO of a tech business and you’re in good form, you simply enjoy this combo and know how to pull it off, you’re confident, go for it.

However, most men will be better suited by wearing a collar. In general, I think it looks better.

You can do this while being casual by wearing a polo, short sleeve, or long sleeve.

Although some men object to the short sleeve, I believe it can be worn in hot weather.

You can opt for a casual button-down in denim or chambray, or a solid color with a pattern.

Keep in mind that if it has brighter colors or patterns, it will be much more difficult to combine with the formality of the sports jacket.

I usually stick to solid colors or colors with a minor design that can’t be noticed from afar and appears like oxford cotton or something similar.

We’re moving into formal shirts at that moment, and I believe this is where it still works.

By putting the sports jacket over the dress shirts, you may wear them with jeans.

Simply looking at whites, small repeating patterns, whites with blues, light blues, medium blues, and even darker hues can be enough for most guys.

When you include darker hues, you introduce a plethora of patterns.

Those aren’t technically dress shirts anymore, but they’re still called dress shirts.

The point is that you’ve chosen a color and are now ensuring that the colors will complement one other.

If your jacket has some designs, don’t worry about it; as long as the patterns don’t exactly match, you’ll be fine.

You can wear stripes on your shirt or a glen check on your jacket; it’s absolutely OK.

Accessories

You can pull off both pocket squares and neckties.

I appreciate how you included a non-silk necktie, perhaps a knitted, wool, or something similar.

I believe now is the ideal moment to bring them in.

When it comes to pocket squares, you should have a lot of fun with them.

I enjoy modest, varied designs such as paisleys and dots.

Even if it’s only a simple square presidential fold, make sure you wear a pocket square.

Watches, bracelets, rings, and even glasses are modest accessories to pay attention to.

Make them a little more interesting by including different styles and colors.

The fantastic thing about wearing a sports jacket with a pair of jeans is that you will stand out from the crowd.

It’s one of those ensembles where you can have a good time while also looking nicer and more stylish than the great majority of people on the street.
