The title, meaning “vertiginous” or “dizzying,” perfectly encapsulates the collection’s essence, which is a whirlwind of historical references, archival nods, and Michele’s unique vision of 21st-century beauty.
The collection featured grandiose silhouettes, intricate embroidery, and opulent fabrics. Michele’s use of materials like duchesse satin, moiré, and faille, combined with his magpie sensibilities, created a breathtaking symphony of couture craftsmanship.
The designs were a philosophical reflection on the art of dressmaking, filled with stream-of-consciousness lists and detailed notes describing each handmade garment.
The presentation itself was designed to induce a sense of vertigo, with stadium-style bleachers in a darkened venue and a soundtrack mixing the Oxford Camerata chamber choir with static electronica by Alva Noto. The sensory overload was heightened by a giant screen with words scrolling past, adding to the dramatic effect.
