Men's Business Casual Clothing Ideas

One of my favorite types of articles to write is my outfit breakdowns, in which I discuss how to mix and match certain pieces to create beautiful outfits for various seasons and situations.

However, there is one aspect of men’s style that I’ve overlooked, and that is the tough business casual dress code.

Business casual is a look that is becoming increasingly popular in the workplace, yet it is extremely easy for men to do wrong. Usually because you’re dressed too formal or too casually.

This is why I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite outfits that will help you stand out as the best-dressed man at work.

Make sure to check out each outfit because they cover the entire range of business casual style.

We have a look for our first outfit that is definitely on the business casual side of things.

A classic blue sports coat is paired with a dress shirt, a pair of light-colored chinos, and a pair of brown Oxford dress shoes in this outfit.

Unlike suit jackets, the traditional sports coat comes in a wide range of colors and designs. It looks well with dark-wash jeans, chinos, or contrasting wool pants.

Only the top button is buttoned on this two-button single breasted.

It’s vital to combine a sports coat like this with pants that are a different color and fabric.

I like how the chinos bring some much-needed lightness to the upper portion of the body.

If the brighter chinos don’t appeal to you, you can always opt for a pair of gray or dark green chinos. Lighter colors, on the other hand, should not be avoided, especially during the warmer spring and summer months.

Speaking of lighter colors, below the sports coat comes a nice and crisp pale blue chambray shirt.

Chambray is a fabric that resembles denim but is much lighter and more breathable.

I love how the top part of this outfit is made up of two different colors of blue, which really helps to brighten up your complexion no matter what your skin tone is.

On the feet, we have a classic pair of brown Oxfords that elevate this business casual outfit even further.

The brown Oxford is an incredibly versatile shoe, especially when it comes to wearing with various types of pants.

If you’re going to wear a belt with this outfit, make sure it’s the same color as your Oxfords.

While we’re on the subject, the watch, sunglasses, and pocket square show off some elite level accessorizing. All of this readily contributes to the overall sharp look. On each hand, there is also a ring.

Here’s a different take on this outfit.

On the lower half, we’ve got a trendy sports coat coupled with a classic crisp Oxford button-down shirt and light chinos.

If you want something a little more laid-back, swap out the dress shirt for a t-shirt or a crew neck sweater in both of these outfits.

This would give the remaining pieces a more casual vibe while yet maintaining a sense of effortless flair.

Next, we have Ryan Reynolds, who wears a simple yet sharp business casual style.

Ryan is noted for his well-put-together yet simple-to-copy ensembles.

This outfit is one of my favorites because it can be worn by men of any age or body type.

So, let’s take a look at it.

I’ve talked about the importance of a well-fitting bomber jacket before, so I won’t go into too much depth here.

However, I’d want to call attention to how this one adds a layer of classic and effortless style to Ryan’s entire look.

When it comes to bombers, navy is such a versatile hue, and the jacket is clearly the center point of the outfit here. However, it is not excessively loud or distracting.

We have a black Oxford shirt below the jacket, which has been tucked in and buttoned all the way up to the top, giving it a more formal dressier image.

When it’s buttoned all the way up, I just think it looks more modern.

This outfit would also look great with a white Oxford shirt.

For a somewhat more relaxed look, do a front tuck with the top two buttons unfastened.

On the bottom half, we have a pair of well-fitting gray chinos with brown high-top sneakers.

The chinos bring a touch of business to the outfit’s business casual vibe, while the shoes provide some edgy street style.

These can simply be replaced with white sneakers or leather chukka boots.

Let’s only focus on the utilization of accessories in this case.

The belt matches the watch strap, which also matches his spectacles’ black frame.

Because the accessories are all black, I would have paired this outfit with black sneakers to make the whole thing look even more put-together.

But, as previously stated, accessories are minor touches that, as you can see, go a long way.

This is a different take on the same look.

We’re wearing charcoal chinos with a gray suede jacket. The navy t-shirt appears to dress down the appearance to the point that it just feels like a casual outfit at first glance.

The leather dress shoes, on the other hand, return it to business casual by giving it a much nicer overall aspect.

Little details like this can really lift an outfit and keep it appearing sharp and trendy, which is exactly what business casual is all about.

For my next look, I’ve put together an outfit that shows how, by paying attention to the basics, you can get a great business casual style.

Let’s start with what I believe is the foundation of this entire outfit.

The navy wool pants are the ones you’re looking for.

The pants are ideally broken right above the ankle and have a really smart crease that runs the length of the leg, which is especially fantastic for guys who are shorter or have larger thighs, as it may assist elongate or thin the leg in the best way possible.

When it comes to pants, navy is such a versatile color that it goes with anything in your closet.

This means you may swap chinos or perhaps a pair of dark wash jeans instead of this wool pair.

Up top, we have a sleek and classic crew neck sweater, which I believe is an essential item for every man’s wardrobe.

At least one crew neck sweater is almost certain to be in your closet. If you don’t have any, I’d suggest picking up a few in traditional neutral colors. Before moving on to brighter tones like the one seen here, I’m talking about black, charcoal gray, and navy.

If you want to dress up this outfit even further, replace the crew neck sweater with a white or light blue Oxford button-down shirt.

For a relaxed business casual style, do a tiny front tuck with the shirt, unbutton the top two buttons, and roll up the sleeves.

A pair of brown dress shoes or loafers will complete this outfit.

You’ve achieved the ideal combination of formality and informality, making it appropriate for everything from date night to Monday morning at the office.

We’re going back to Ryan Reynolds for the next one. He’s wearing a trucker jacket, dress shirt, and chinos in this outfit, and he looks great.

This outfit is a great example of mixing smarter and more casual pieces to create a sophisticated and elegant business casual ensemble.

Let’s talk about the trucker jacket for a moment.

When it comes to men’s trucker jackets, blue denim isn’t the only option, contrary to common assumption.

They’re now available in a variety of colors and fabrics, including wool corduroy and suede, as seen above.

Suede jackets have become a more popular choice in the world of men’s fashion in recent years since they provide a more elevated lux touch to an outfit.

Take note of the fit as well. Trucker jackets, like bombers, are designed to stop at the waist, with sleeves that end at the wrist.

They’re flattering on all body types, but if you’re a bigger guy, wear them unbuttoned for a slimmer impression, just like your bombers.

This jacket is combined with a dress shirt, which improves the outfit significantly. He concludes with a pair of gray chinos on the bottom.

Swap out the dress shirt for a white tee and pair it with some white low top sneakers to dress this outfit down a notch.
