How to Wear Grey Flannel Trousers

How to Wear Grey Flannel Trousers

I’m going to show you how to wear grey flannel trousers in this article.

Why do I believe that every man’s wardrobe should include a pair of grey flannel trousers?

I’ll offer you five reasons why you should think about them.

I have a pair of grey flannel trousers that I consider to be ideal. I had a custom tailor make these for me, and I used really high-end fabric.

These were the trousers I wanted to wear every time I went on a trip or had to give a presentation. I feel amazing about wearing them whenever I need something that makes me feel like a million bucks.

Grey flannel trousers used to be extremely popular, and almost every man had a pair in their wardrobe. Then there was this thing called jeans.

And, because of its low cost, denim began to dominate our wardrobe, while grey flannel gradually faded away, which is a shame because it had so many positive attributes.

What is Flannel?

First and foremost, what is flannel?

Flannel is a fabric that is usually composed of wool and has a nap on the surface. What exactly do I mean when I say nap surface?

As you might guess, a third dimension has been added to the surface, and part of the fabric that came up has been picked over. It has a very smooth and delicate texture as a result of this.

Let’s look at five reasons why you should have a pair of grey flannel trousers in your wardrobe.

Classic

The first is that they are classic.

I mentioned how they used to be in every man’s wardrobe. Trousers of this style have been around for over a century.

That tells me, and it should tell you, that if you buy a pair, even if you spend a lot of money on them, you can be sure they’ll last for 10 to 15 years before they fall out of style.

To be honest, I don’t think these items will ever go out of style; nevertheless, they have grown less fashionable, which is to your advantage, as we’ll discuss later.

Versatile

The second point is that grey flannels are versatile.

What exactly do I mean when I say “versatile”?

They’re easy to match, and they’re really simple to dress up or down.

Grey is a wonderful color. Why? Because it is a non-color.

On the color spectrum, grey is halfway between white and black, therefore it’s black with a hint of white.

What this means is that if you have a lavender, orange, yellow, or olive jacket, grey flannel trousers will match great with them.

A nice pocket square, an olive green jacket, a blue shirt, and a pair of grey flannels complete the ensemble. I’ve just described one of my favorite outfits in detail.

It looks fantastic, and no one can figure out why this man is so attractive.

Because it’s not patterned, you may mix and match it with any of the colors and patterns. Grey flannel, for the most part, will be devoid of any pattern.

So, it’s going to allow other items in your wardrobe to really catch the eye and you can dress it up, you can dress it down, you can wear it with a sports jacket, wear it with a blazer.

It’s easy to pair with a casual shirt.

Comfortable

The third point is that it is comfortable.

There are a variety of alternative trousers that sit somewhere between jeans and dress slacks, but none of them are as comfortable as these, especially in the fall, winter, and spring.

Whenever there are cool breezes, a pair of grey flannel trousers with a nap surface retains heat better. Rubbing up against your body feels nice.

I can tell you that when I travel, I prefer these since they are very comfortable. It’s almost as though I’m wearing pajamas.

They fit me wonderfully, and I feel fantastic as a result of the fit and the material’s surface. It’s wonderful to be able to travel and yet look attractive.

Texture

The fourth point is texture.

I was referring to the nap surface, but texture has another advantage in that it attracts attention and makes people want to touch it.

It’s significantly more versatile because of the texture.

Durability

We’ll discuss about durability in number five.

Is grey flannel going to last? This is something that a lot of people are concerned about.

It is dependent on the fabric’s quality. That’s why Brooks Brothers and a slew of other retailers charge a premium for the trousers.

The reason for this is that they’re utilizing a very high-end Italian weaved or English-made fabric that is simply pricey, but that tells me it’ll last.

You should be cautious when buying recycled wool because the fibers are usually shorter and the trousers may develop small holes over time.

Stand Out

So, this is bonus number six.

You’ll get noticed if you have a pair of grey flannels in your wardrobe.

They aren’t extremely popular; in fact, they have fallen out of favor due to the popularity of jeans. Everyone else wears dress slacks or jeans when I’m out and about. I am one in a hundred men if I have a pair of grey flannels.

Every man, in my opinion, should own a pair. The key is that they can help you stand out in a positive way.

They can be worn in a variety of ways. You can dress them up or down, and they can go from work casual to sporty and everything in between.

I prefer a lighter gray pair of trousers, but if you like a medium gray or darker gray pair, they will work just as well.

First Look

This first look can be done in any shade of grey. It’s kind of a holiday party look.

I’m wearing gray wool trousers with a burgundy corduroy blazer.

For a late fall/early winter look, I adore this look. The texture and richness of this burgundy corduroy will undoubtedly work for a holiday party.

With a standard white dress shirt, go for a little bit of contrast up top.

Finish the look with a pair of oxblood Chelsea boots for a hint of edge.

This look would be perfect for a holiday party or a winter date. It’s smooth, polished, and elevated.

Second Look

We’re switching from a dressier to a more sporty look by removing the blazer and replacing it with a gray sweatshirt.

This look, in my opinion, exemplifies the adaptability of gray wool trousers.

In a monochrome look, they look fantastic. I’m wearing a light blue sweatshirt, gray trousers, and minimalist gray sneakers.

Mixing and combining items that don’t necessarily go together is one of my favorite style tactics.

Here, a sweatshirt isn’t overly huge or too baggy. This look is fresh, casual, and laid-back while still looking polished.

Third Look

We’re going somewhere in the middle of the first and second looks.

Switching out the sweatshirt for a beautiful v-neck sweater, we opt for a wonderful, smart, casual look.

I’m wearing a black v-neck, and you’re wearing a traditional white Oxford fabric button-down shirt underneath. This is a classic look that will never go out of style.

This is a look you can wear today, tomorrow, and in ten years.

One of my favorite pairs of shoes, a pair of oxblood double monk strap, completes the look and ties it all together.

This is a look that can be worn in a lot of versatile situations. From a work casual look to a romantic date, you can wear it in a variety of circumstances.

Fourth Look

The final look is ideal for cooler periods, such as late autumn or early winter.

Your gray wool trousers are paired with a gray charcoal overcoat this time.

For many men, the overcoat is the only coat they require. It’s simple to dress up and down.

For this casual look, I’m wearing a band collar shirt, which is one of my favorite underappreciated shirt types.

But in a variety of gray tones, combining the light gray of the pants with a medium grey band collar and a dark grey charcoal overcoat. To complete the look, I’m wearing one of my favorite black sneakers.
