I’m going to talk about how to find your own fashion style, whether you’re new to fashion or the whole style game, or whether you already think you’ve found yourself but want to try something new.

These five steps are still something I think about every time I try on a new style; they’re still how I approach fashion, and I hope they’ll be helpful to you as well.

Let’s start with the first point, which is inspiration.

Inspiration

Thankfully, nowadays, inspiration can be found just about anywhere. When I first started getting into fashion, I had to wait for a new GQ style catalog to come out.

However, there is a lot of fashion content on Instagram and other sites these days. Almost certainly, you already follow someone whose style you admire.

But that’s only the first step.

Inspiration must be the starting point since it provides you with a goal to strive for. It’s more difficult to develop your own style if you’re just exploring at random.

I think it’s easier to start by picking a style that speaks to you and then trying to duplicate it.

However, the next four steps will make that procedure a little more efficient.

Exploration

The second step is what I like to refer to as exploration. Why is exploration so essential to you?

Because, well, we all live in a very global world, and whatever inspiration you find in someone else may or may not be applicable to where you are.

For a variety of causes.

The first is the weather. You don’t have the same brands, is next one. Number three, you do not have the same financial resources.

There are numerous reasons why you should go out and explore.

Examine all of these different stores and websites for products that are similar to what you’re looking for.

Also, have a sense of where you’ll be shopping for these items in the first place.

When I used to look at GQ’s style, I’d see ten-thousand-dollar clothes from Armani and Gucci and other designers.

I obviously didn’t have that amount of cash, so I took my idea and went shopping in my hometown, trying to figure out which store and which collection best suited my needs.

And with that, I moved on to the third phase.

Experimentation

The experimentation phase is, without a doubt, the most crucial.

Once you’ve located these stores, you begin browsing and selecting items that you believe will complement the style you’re attempting to achieve.

Often, and this has happened to me many times, I wanted to aim for a certain look, but when I put on the items that I thought were reminiscent of that look, they looked strange on me.

I wasn’t used to wearing that style, especially since I had recently begun to embrace something completely different.

When I turned 18, I began to dress a little more dapperly. It seemed strange to wear a coat, shoes, or loafers for the first time when I bought them.

What are your options for dealing with this?

For one thing, it’s critical to try a variety of possibilities. Buy three or four different pairs of jeans instead of just one. You can get them in a variety of sizes. I’m not suggesting you keep them; rather, bring them home and try them on in the privacy of your own house.

Simply step in front of the mirror and try them on with what you already have in your closet. Take a picture, get used to it, and maybe email it to some of your closest friends if you don’t feel ready to wear it out yet, because it feels a little strange, but it’s something you want to do.

If you do that every day, you’ll become used to seeing yourself in this new light, and something truly interesting will happen.

You begin to like yourself in this new style, which seemed odd only a few days earlier.

The importance of experimentation cannot be overstated. Try on several fits and sizes, and see yourself in them on a daily basis so you can get used to it and build your confidence in that style.

This step leads perfectly into number four which is closely connected to number three.

Feeling Good About Yourself

You want to get to the point where you’re happy with the clothes you’re wearing.

It’s not just about how it looks objectively, or how similar it looks to the aesthetic you’re striving for, but also about how it makes you feel.

Just because your inspiration is one thing doesn’t imply it will appear exactly the same for you as you thought.

A more baggy or relaxed silhouette, for example, can imply, “Okay, maybe it’ll do that with jeans.” However, it does not function for your upper body.

You must be a little more adaptable and, as I previously stated, try a variety of different things.

Then begin to pay attention to your feelings.

If it doesn’t look or feel right after several days of wearing it, it’s probably not for you, and that’s perfectly fine.

But I’d like you to keep in mind that we’re dressing first for ourselves. We’re not wearing to follow a trend or to attract women; it’s just something that happens as a result of your self-assurance.

First and foremost, you must begin with yourself.

Wear what makes you happy and feels good because that’s what will make you look nice.

You can put on the most fashionable outfit, but if it doesn’t feel good, it won’t look right.

Get The Details Right

Last but not least, remember that the devil is in the details.

Based on your inspiration, you might be 90% of the way to where you want to be. But something doesn’t seem quite right.

This is where you’ll need to use your key style knowledge.

This is where we look at the perfect fit, the accessories, and the tiny changes in shoes that may elevate an outfit to a whole new level.

This is where we’ll start looking at grooming, and this is where we’ll start looking at your body to figure out how to outfit yourself.

The devil, as they say, is in the details.

It’s critical that when you’ve completed this process, you return to your source of inspiration and ask yourself why this works.

Oh, that guy is usually tucking his shirt in, just a tiny little bit in the front, and that’s why the top drapes so nicely.

Oh, he’s always wearing rings, and he’s covered in tattoos, so that look works.

We need to look at the outfit with a critical eye and see what makes it work.

A fashion expert once told me that the outfit makes the man, but the accessories make the outfit.

I’m going to turn things around a little. The guy is defined by his outfit, but the details define the outfit.

A large portion of it is the accessories. But, in general, the importance of the small things cannot be emphasized.

After you’ve done that, you’re quite likely to have a style, a wardrobe, and things in your wardrobe that not only make you feel good, but also work together and are in line with your style.

I’ve always struggled with the fact that I prefer a variety of styles, and it’s been intriguing for me to learn to embrace multiple trends and build a closet that encompasses more than simply suiting, street wear, and casual chic.

There are so many factors that make it more difficult than if you simply know what your style is and try to follow it.

This method, though, isn’t limited to your personal style. However, if you want to branch out into other areas, the same procedure can be used.

This is something I’ve been doing for almost a decade.

For a long time, I’ve been dressing up. With the loose baggy silhouette trend resurfacing, I felt compelled to use this technique once more.

I was going to different stores and trying on different outfits in an attempt to embrace that look. And, to be honest, I didn’t quite make it through step four.

I found that wearing looser, baggy clothing didn’t make me feel as good as other outfits did.

I think it’s vital for me to incorporate it in various ways, so I’m going to wear more relaxed pants and oversized sweaters.

But I’m not trying for a very baggy look in general because that’s not where I’m at right now.

Between my tale and the five steps, I hope you have a decent notion of how you may boost your style game, discover your own fashion style, and look and feel your best in clothing.
