4 Essential Menswear Items

Essential Menswear Items

I’ve put up a list of the essential menswear items that you should seriously consider investing in.

Crewneck Sweater

The classic crewneck sweater is the first item on our list because it is a vital piece of menswear that every guy should own but that no guy should cheap on purchasing.

A crewneck sweater of excellent quality looks wonderful all year long. Not only does it help keep you warm, but due to its versatility, you can create an almost infinite number of different outfit combinations by just changing what you wear it with.

When you invest in the highest possible quality, it has just the perfect amount of texture, which adds just the right amount of an expensive premium touch to your outfits, which both men and women will notice.

Cheap sweaters will always look cheap, I promise.

Let’s discuss its versatility.

Throw it over a crewneck tee if you want to wear it as a top layer during the spring and summer. Are you searching for a warm item for the next fall and winter? Wear it on underneath one of your coats, suits, or jackets.

The fabric is what sets a decent sweater apart from a lousy one.

Wool or cashmere are the materials I usually recommend going for. Even though it is admittedly more expensive, cashmere is super warm and adds any ensemble a stunning touch of luxury.

Choose a standard or Merino wool, or perhaps a blend with cotton or silk, if you tend to run a little warmer.

Before experimenting with other hues like camel, dark green, and burgundy, I recommend investing in neutral crew neck sweaters in colors like black, navy, and charcoal.

Regardless of your body type, you should always ensure that your crewneck sweater fits like a glove.

Make sure you can only pinch up to two inches of fabric on one side of your stomach and no more than an inch of fabric on the back of your triceps.

In terms of length, the sleeves should often end around the bend of your wrist. Also, make sure the sweater doesn’t extend over the area of your belt buckle.

If you’re one of the heavier guys, you should only wear your crewneck sweater underneath a jacket like a trucker or bomber. Never as a portion of an outer layer.

You shouldn’t wear it by itself because doing so will result in a wide swath of fabric covering your torso, which will draw attention to your size.

Jackets & Coats

Speaking of layering, the next item on my list of items worth investing in has got to be your outerwear, your coats and jackets.

There are so many various styles available, but whichever one you choose, I think you should spend as much as your budget will allow.

The reason is that a well-fitting, high-quality jacket will truly make your ensemble stand out and show off your personality and sense of style.

Typically, you can only accomplish this through investing.

I can instantly tell if a guy spent money on his coat or jacket or if he cut corners.

You can’t tell the difference between something that is pricey or inexpensive with t-shirts and jeans.

Additionally, the more you invest, the longer these coats and jackets will last. Nothing irritates me more than when I see a guy skimp on his outerwear by going with a low-quality jacket every fall, just to throw it away the following spring because it is either out of style or ruined.

Why not get more for your money by going for a more enduring and classic option for outerwear that, despite being more expensive at first, will last you for years to come.

Your final decision for a jacket will be influenced by your personal style or the climate where you live.

But for the colder months, I always reach for bombers, truckers, utility jackets, and coats.

Wallet

The next item of menswear that is absolutely necessary for you to invest is a classic piece that many men opt to save on because it isn’t particularly noticeable and shouldn’t be.

It’s your wallet.

When they take their wallets out, I see that a lot of men are sporting wallets that are either quite immature or extremely cheap-looking, which seriously detracts from the appearance of otherwise flawless attire.

Like any accessory, a decent wallet should improve your entire look and sense of style.

Regardless of your financial status, a cheap wallet makes you look cheap, and do you really want to display that so readily?

Also let’s face it.

An item is generally worthwhile to invest in if you use and carry it every day.

Here is a quick list of characteristics to look for in a wallet.

It should, first and foremost, have a timeless design and be minimal. That means no branding and no velcro.

Secondly, it ought to be as thin as possible to avoid unsightly bulges.

And lastly, consider the color and material. This means going for a subdued color like brown, navy, or black. Real leather is something I like to recommend going for because it is incredibly resilient and will still look great after years of use.

Your choice of style will depend on your personal tastes. I advise getting a quality bi-fold wallet or, my personal preference, a card case, which is wonderful if you’re going to an event where you don’t need to carry cash because it’s so compact.

Lace-up Leather Boots

A pair of lace-up leather boots is the next item on our list and is an option for footwear that will keep your feet warm and dry.

Any pair of boots priced under $200 will likely be constructed of inferior materials that will eventually break down over a relatively brief period of time.

A pair of high-quality leather lace-up boots, on the other hand, will not only last you for many years, but they will also keep you dry and warm while also adding style to your outfits.

I recommend a slender profile boot and choose a simple or cap toe style over broguing as this is simply too fancy and less adaptable to work with when it comes to your more casual outfits.

Dark chocolate is a great choice for a color since it works well with both casual and more formal outfits and is really adaptable.

Additionally, going with high-quality leather will give your boots a unique patina that will make them look better over time.

When I advise you to make an investment in your boots, I don’t just suggest investing in a more expensive, higher-quality pair.

I’m also referring to taking the proper steps to ensure proper care. Make sure the sole is sturdy and capable of giving you a good grip on wet or slippery conditions.

Additionally, be sure to use the right materials to make the leather’s appearance of cleanliness and radiance, since wearing boots that are unclean or stained would entirely undermine the point of wearing lovely and fashionable real leather boots.
